ByHow can I get a www. in front of my small business name?
I want to design, set-up and maintain my own website.
Everybody says that I have to hire a web designer person for this task..

No you don’t.
There are lots of credible professional web hosting companies out there, and many provide alot of tools and templates for webpages.
Believe it or not, yahoo is one of the oldest and largest business webpage hosting companies around.
.
You if want to do ecommerce, ( where people can buy and pay with a credit card )
Then a professional hosting company is better( unless your a large business). They will provide all the tools necessary.
If you just want an information webpage, to showcase you business and to provide contact info.
Yahoo webpages will work just fine., or even your local ISP could host the webpage for you.
You would have to but a .com or .net domain address, but they are cheap, about $20.00 a year.
Either way, they will give you e-mail address, linked to your domain address.
IE: yourname@heymare.com
I provided some links below, on HTML totorials, webpage templates and web hosting.
To host with your local isp, you would need to contact them.

Well… if you want the website to be totally problem free then I would advice getting a web designer but there are aplications out there which make the job so much easier, these include Macromedia Dreamweaver which is so easy to use and lets you make pretty complex websites easily.
Hope this has been helpfull

You can do, or just do it yourself

You don’t have to hire a web designer, but it is the easier way to go. There are a lot of things that you need to do a certain way to make your website search engine friendly, that will take you a while to learn, plus how to code it properly. You can find tons of tutorials on line, so you might want to try those first to get an idea of what you need to do. Holler if you need help, I’d be glad to give you a hand.

No, you don’t have to hire somebody, but given that you don’t even know how to "get a www in front" of your business name, (it’s called registering a domain name) you might be better off with professional help.
Can you do it yourself? Sure. You can work on your car yourself too, but most people prefer to just take it to the mechanic.
The bottom line is that someone who does it every day for a living will be more knowledgeable and proficient than someone who’s just learning.
It’s certainly up to you, but you’ll get much better results if you get someone who knows the ropes to at least assist you.

If you don’t hire a Web Site designer and developer you will have to go on a learning curve. You will have to buy books, or get then from the library and also find information on the Internet. It could take a few years depending on how much time each day you are willing to spend on it and the how large your Site is. I went on that learning curve and am glad that I did! I learned how to use Html, CSS, PHP, and MySQL. There are a lot of other technologies that can be used to build Web Sites.
It you are not willing to put a lot of time and effort into it you will be much better off hiring someone else. The cost of hiring someone else is not that great when you compare it to the time and effort you are going to have to put into it. Hope that helps.
