how can i trust someone to design my website?
Byhow can i trust that someone to design my website without stealing my idea or logging in to my site and changing things afterwords? how to i prevent this from happening?

Ideally you should use a web designer who isnt in the same industry vertical as you (i.e he would have a reason to steal it). Other things you may do is outsource it to another country so there would be no competition even if they did steal it. Also have an NDA with a clause not to copy the idea. As far as logging in to your site and changing things, get the hosting from a third party and once they upload the site and make it live you can change and maintain the passwords yoruself. they wont be able to change anything without authority. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
Just find an actual designer with experience who does this for a living, not some kid who thinks they can do it. No professional would ever have the slightest intention of messing with their work.
In terms of stealing, you can always take the matter to court and it would be an easy case, since you will be able to prove that you had the idea first. Keep all of the email exchanges with the designer archived in case you suspect that something was stolen. But I really doubt that this would ever happen, unless you have a completely new and original idea, and in that case you can just pay to have it copyrighted/patented.
As for the password, you can always change it after the designer has finished, problem solved.

Why not make it yourself? Office Live Small Business gives you templates to help create your website and there is an online community to reference for “how-tos” with demos, blogs and Q&A. You’ll have the ability to make changes whenever you want.

I work on projects with clients that have the exact same thoughts. The way that I make things easier on my clients is to sit down with them and before they even share their idea I will sign a non-compete clause just so that if I did try to steal their idea (Which i genuinly wouldn’t) they have a law binding document.
You would need to find a website designer like myself that specializes in commercial websites. If you find a commercial web designer, they shouldn’t even have to think twice when you ask them to sign a non-compete clause.
