What is a good website design company?

By Sally Homemaker

Hello, I have a project where we are currently working for a nonprofit organization called Lexington Historical Society. They have a very dull website that needs to be upgraded significantly. How much does it normally cost for a whole revamp of a website and also what are some good companies to contact for making a website?

Thanks

I currently work for a professional website design company, Blue Fountain Media. All of our work is very customized and branded to your particular business/organization. We do everything from social media to corporate identity sites.

Most of our websites start at $5K. We work with major companies and organizations: Nike, Martha Stewart, The UN, The Yankees, etc.

We are located in Manhattan if you would like to talk about the LHS project.

Here is an interesting Flash website that we did a while back if you are looking for something more eye-catching: http://www.imagemme.com/

Here is an example of a news website: http://www.contributemedia.com/

Our website is below.

i would go with a freelancer. it will be much less expensive than going to a company.

usually, for a 5 page basic website, prices start at $1000.

the company i work for charges from $10,000 for a website.

try posting an ad on craigslist to find someone in your area!

I can do it.

Generally I rebuild web sites using a content management system. I build a custom template based on your specifications and add content from your existing site. I also give you access to the system so you can add or modify content any time you wish without having to call me.

You can also have an image browser and / or email form as part of the basic site.

The starting cost is usually about $300, and I can usually have the site up and running within a few days of getting your material.

My price includes online instruction on how to use your new site to its fullest.

Which Lexington is it? The one near Boston?

Email me through yahoo answers if you want more information.

I would go with someone local to your area, it’s not required, but does help I think. In my area I would go with:

Finding a professional, reliable, and trustworthy web designer or web design company can be just as frustrating as finding a good mechanic.
There are thousands of designers and design companies out there that are all waiting for you to part ways with your money, and only a handful that really want to help you achieve your goals and build an affordable and professional website for you.

There are several different levels and types of websites (brochure, e-commerce, flash, database) and the price can vary between $100 – $100,000 + depending on your needs. The most common type of website is known as a brochure website, and generally consists of 1-10 pages, and describes the products or services a company offers and gives the website visitor a way to contact the site owner. This is the least expensive type of website, and the cost is usually around $100-$1,000. Other types of websites that have moving objects or advanced features can be significantly more expensive, time consuming to build, and require a full-time staff to manage.

There are web design companies that offer "all-in-one" affordable web design services that include everything you need to get your business online including a domain name, custom website, web hosting account, e-mail, monthly website maintenance, website traffic statistics and more. Most of these companies charge an affordable setup fee ($100-$300), and a low monthly fee to maintain your website ($30-$100 / Mo) for you, which allows you to focus on your business instead of trying to learn how to become a web designer.

When speaking to web designers and design companies, make sure you ask plenty of questions, and ask them to give you a proposal in writing. Written communication will be your only proof of the services that you’re purchasing, so it is extremely important to have everything in writing. Ask them to send you a detailed quote via e-mail before making a final decision. It’s an easy step to take to avoid a huge disaster in the future.

Make sure that you’re comfortable with your potential web designer or design company. Ask them to send you references and links to projects they’ve worked on recently. The person you choose should be well-rounded and knowledgable in several areas of web design because having an overall picture will help them provide you with the best options available to you. During my time in the web design business, I’ve spoken with many customers that get overwhelmed by the technical jargon and big words that most web designers and design companies use when discussing your project. Make sure you find someone who explains things to you in a non-technical, easy-to-understand way. This goes a long way when trying to understanding the web design process.

Now that you’re armed with valuable information, you can feel confident that you’re prepared to approach a web designer or design company with questions about the website you need created.
